On a checkpoint in the Odesa region on Monday evening, a VAZ driver hit two border guards, one of whom died. The other was taken to the hospital with injuries. The driver of the car has been detained. This is reported by UNN with reference to the police of the Odesa region.

As reported, the incident occurred on December 2 around 6:00 pm. According to law enforcement officers, a 66-year-old driver of a VAZ car did not respond to speed limit signs before the checkpoint and hit two border guards.
The driver was checked for intoxication - he is sober. He was detained in the procedural manner.
Investigators of the Odesa region police have initiated criminal proceedings under Part 2 of Art. 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - violation of traffic safety rules or operation of vehicles by a person driving a vehicle, if they caused the death of the victim or inflicted serious bodily harm. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
