22 of the 115 settlements in the 5-km zone near the border in Sumy region of Ukraine have been completely evacuated due to the ongoing fighting, and about 820 children have been evacuated to date.
The decision to evacuate the population from 115 settlements was made in 2023, and now 22 of them have been completely evacuated, said Volodymyr Artyukh, head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration, on Radio Liberty, UNN reports .

He said that communities such as: Velyka Pysarivka, Yunakivska community and other areas, especially Shostka district, are suffering from the hostilities. For the safety of the communities, it was decided to evacuate them.
Artyukh added that the threat exists almost along the entire length of the border, so it is necessary to evacuate the population not only from the 5-kilometer zone, but also further.
