President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy will pay an official visit to Serbia on August 8, where he will hold talks with the country’s president, Aleksandar Vučić. UNN reports this, citing the Serbian public broadcaster RTS and the administration of the President of Serbia.
Details
Belgrade said that the exact program of the visit, as well as the time and location of the events, would be announced later for accredited media representatives. This will be Zelenskyy’s first official bilateral visit to Serbia since he took office as head of state,
According to Vučić, one of the main topics of the talks will be the European integration of Ukraine and Serbia. The Serbian president noted that both states face similar challenges on the path to membership in the European Union and can exchange experience.

In addition, Zelenskyy and Vučić plan to discuss the development of bilateral economic cooperation, interaction in the energy sector, as well as joint projects in the fields of culture and sports.
The parties are also expected to raise the issue of concluding a free trade agreement between Ukraine and Serbia during the meeting. Work on the relevant document intensified after the recent Ukrainian-Serbian talks, but there is currently no information about its possible signing during the visit.
At the same time, Vučić stressed that the Ukrainian president’s visit would not mean a change in Belgrade’s position on sanctions against Russia. Serbia condemns the Russian invasion and supports Ukraine’s territorial integrity, but has still not joined the EU’s restrictive measures against Moscow.
The issue of Kosovo remains a separate factor in Ukrainian-Serbian relations. Ukraine does not recognize its independence, a position that the Serbian authorities have repeatedly viewed positively.
Context
Zelenskyy and Vučić had previously met on the sidelines of international events. In particular, talks took place in Athens, Tirana, Davos, and during Ukraine–Southeast Europe summits. In June 2025, Vučić visited Ukraine for the first time as President of Serbia and met with Zelenskyy in Odesa.
In July 2026, the Serbian leader also visited Kyiv, where he took part in the Ukraine–Southeast Europe summit. During the meetings, the Serbian side stated its readiness to continue providing humanitarian, medical, and energy assistance to Ukraine, as well as to join the post-war reconstruction of one of Ukraine’s settlements.
Reminder
In November 2025, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with Ana Brnabić, President of the National Assembly of Serbia, discussing European integration and the return of Ukrainian children abducted by Russia. The parties also touched on interstate cooperation and regional security.
