The Commemoration Day of the Holy Martyrs Menodora, Metrodora, and Nymphodora
According to the new calendar, Orthodox and Greek Catholic believers commemorate the holy martyrs Menodora, Metrodora, and Nymphodora—three Christian sisters from Bithynia who, during the reign of Emperor Galerius (the early fourth century), refused to renounce their faith and accepted martyrdom after brutal torture. Saint Paul the Obedient of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, who lived as an ascetic in the Far Caves of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra in the 13th century, and Saint Joasaph are also commemorated on this day.
According to the old calendar, believers observe the discovery of the relics of Saint Job of Pochaiv (1659)—a prominent Ukrainian Orthodox saint and abbot of the Pochaiv Lavra who, during the religious conflicts of the 17th century, strengthened the Orthodox faith, developed the monastery, and supported printing. The holy martyr Shushanik (Susanna), Princess of Rani, whose martyrdom is described in ancient Georgian literature, is also commemorated.
