US imposes new sanctions over Iranian oil supplies to China

Washington has introduced restrictions against 12 entities from Hong Kong, the UAE, and Oman. The sanctions target a shadow fleet that transported oil for Iran's needs.

The US has introduced new sanctions against three individuals and nine companies that, according to Washington, helped Iran supply oil to China. This was reported by Reuters, according to UNN.

The restrictions targeted companies from Hong Kong, the United Arab Emirates, and Oman. The US Department of the Treasury stated that the sanctions are aimed at a network of front companies used by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps to sell and transport oil.

Sanctions imposed ahead of Trump-Xi meeting

The new restrictions were announced just days before the scheduled meeting between US President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping.

According to Reuters, Trump intends to raise the issue of China's support for Iran and discuss the situation surrounding the Strait of Hormuz, which remains critical for the global oil market.

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated that Washington will continue to increase economic pressure on Tehran.

Companies from Hong Kong, the UAE, and Oman hit by sanctions

Among the companies sanctioned are Hong Kong Blue Ocean Ltd, Hong Kong Sanmu Ltd, Max Honor International Trade Co Ltd, as well as Dubai-based Ocean Allianz Shipping LLC, Universal Fortune Trading LLC, and Atic Energy FZE.

According to the US Treasury, these entities helped organize sales of Iranian oil, transport cargo via "shadow fleet" tankers, and process payments.

Sanctions were also imposed against the Omani logistics company Zeus Group, which Washington accuses of organizing shipments of Iranian oil.
