US President Joe Biden, Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schufa, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Romanian President Klaus Iohannis and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy today announced a joint effort to provide additional air defense capabilities to Ukraine.
In a joint statement, they emphasized the need to protect Ukraine from russia's ongoing aggression, including deliberate attacks on Ukrainian cities and infrastructure.
According to the information, the United States and allied countries will provide Ukraine with five strategic air defense systems, including additional Patriot batteries, Patriot components, and the SAMP-T system.
It is also planned to provide dozens of tactical air defense systems, such as NASAMS, HAWK, IRIS T-SLM, IRIS T-SLS and Gepard systems, which will further strengthen Ukraine's air defense. The United States and partners have committed to providing the Ukrainian army with hundreds of additional air defense interceptors next year.
The leaders expressed their gratitude to the more than 50 countries that provide security assistance to Ukraine, as well as to the support of the Immediate Action for Air Defense Initiative and the Joint Air and Missile Defense Capabilities Coalition.
