Ukraine is convening urgent meetings of the UN Security Council, as well as taking relevant steps within the OSCE, the Council of Europe, and UNESCO in connection with Russia's latest attacks against Ukraine. This was announced by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Andrii Sybiha, reports UNN.
Kyiv, Kharkiv, Dnipro, and other cities have come under heavy attack. Civilians were killed, children were wounded, and brave rescuers gave their lives as a result of a cynical double-tap strike on the site of an attack. Residential buildings and historical heritage sites, including the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra—a UNESCO World Heritage site—suffered large-scale damage. By attacking our people, our cities, and our cultural and religious heritage, Russia demonstrates complete contempt for international law and the principles for the protection of which the United Nations was created
The Foreign Minister emphasized that while Russia continues to escalate attacks and undermine all efforts aimed at achieving peace, a strong and united international response is critical to increasing pressure on the aggressor and ensuring its accountability.
We are grateful to our partners for their solidarity and unwavering support for Ukraine as it defends its people, its heritage, and the principles of the UN Charter
As a reminder
Earlier, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha stated that Ukraine is initiating relevant procedures within UNESCO and other international mechanisms, demanding an "immediate and adequate response" to the Russian strike that significantly damaged the buildings of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra.
