U.S. President Donald Trump will receive a handwritten letter from German Chancellor Friedrich Merz for his 80th birthday. This is reported by Spiegel with reference to sources in the German government, UNN reports.

It is noted that the letter will be delivered by courier to the White House. In addition, next Monday, Merz will also personally present a gift to the U.S. President at the G7 summit in Evian, France, on the shores of Lake Geneva. However, what exactly the gift will be has not yet been disclosed.
Trump will celebrate his 80th birthday on Sunday in front of the White House in Washington with numerous guests and accompanied by a cage fight, which has been a subject of controversy for months. Immediately after, he will depart for the G7 summit in France, where he will meet Merz and other heads of state and government of the group of economically powerful Western democracies in the evening
It is pointed out that Trump has already received numerous gifts from Merz during the latter's first visits to the U.S. For instance, during his inaugural visit almost exactly a year ago, Merz brought a copy of Trump's grandfather's birth certificate from Kallstadt in the Palatinate region of Germany and a golf club as a gift.
In March, during his third visit to Washington since taking office, Chancellor Merz presented Trump with a copy of the 1785 Treaty of Amity and Commerce between the United States and Prussia
The authors add that Merz and Trump "started the year well," but recently relations between them have cooled significantly following the German Chancellor's sharp criticism of the Iran nuclear deal. In response, the U.S. President announced the withdrawal of troops from Germany. A bilateral meeting between them on the sidelines of the G7 summit is considered likely but has not yet been confirmed.
