US President Donald Trump stated that the elimination of Iranian General Qasem Soleimani was one of the factors that ultimately allowed for the current agreements with Iran. He said this at a press conference following the G7 summit, UNN reports.
Trump called Soleimani a key figure of the Iranian regime.
"If General Soleimani hadn't been killed, we probably wouldn't be talking right now. He was a mad genius. They will never be able to replace this ideologue," the US President stated.
At the same time, he noted that strong and radical leaders often lead their countries into serious problems.
"So many people forget that tough guys usually lead their country to the abyss," Trump said.
The American President also called the reached agreements historic.
"This is a historic deal with many of our allies and friends. Many presidents and prime ministers supported it," he noted.
According to Trump, among the leaders who positively assessed the agreements was Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
