It is noted that on Friday, March 21, the US Department of Defense published new guidelines on how it will enforce the ban on transgender people serving in the military.
A memorandum from the Office of the Deputy Secretary of Defense states that the ministry will review the medical records of servicemen and within 45 days will provide them with self-assessment questionnaires to determine whether they have a current diagnosis, medical history, or symptoms of gender dysphoria that make them unsuitable for further service
It is noted that the exclusion of people with symptoms of gender dysphoria will only apply to those who have "a pronounced discrepancy and clinically significant distress or disturbance for at least six months", citing the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders of the American Psychiatric Association.
