If Hungary blocks sanctions against the Russian Federation, the EU may return 240 billion euros of frozen assets to Putin. Estonia calls for the confiscation of these funds.

Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna said that if Hungary blocks the extension of sanctions against Russia, the European Union will have to give Putin 240 billion euros of frozen assets. This is reported by UNN with reference to Spiegel.

Details

In a comment to one of the publications in Brussels, Tsahkna called Russian dictator Vladimir Putin a liar and called for the confiscation of the frozen assets of the aggressor state.

We have frozen real estate assets in Europe worth $240 billion or more. The money of the Russian Central Bank is mostly in Belgium

- said the head of the Estonian Foreign Ministry.

The official noted that the decision to extend EU sanctions against Russia must be made every six months. And during each such vote, Hungary's consent is required. If this time in June the decision is blocked, it threatens the return of frozen funds back to Russia.

If they (Hungary - ed.) block it in June, not only will the sanctions end, but we will also have to transfer 240 billion euros to Putin. How do heads of state and government intend to explain to the citizens of Europe that they are transferring money to Putin, which he intends to use not only against Ukraine, but also against us? Therefore, we will have to confiscate these assets

- said Tsahkna.

The head of the Estonian Foreign Ministry also added that there is a legal possibility for this.

We must not leave Belgium alone. We must also ensure that even if there is no unanimous decision, the money will not be transferred. We cannot demand money from our taxpayers to support Ukraine, but not from Russia, which is the aggressor

- he summarized.

Addition

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andriy Sybiha and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Hungary Peter Siijjarto agreed to hold another round of consultations between the two countries next week.

Also, during the meeting, the parties discussed possible ways to resolve problems in bilateral relations. Sybiha emphasized that Ukraine is interested in finding solutions, not obstacles.
