Taiwan needs American weaponry to strengthen its defense capabilities amid growing military pressure from China. This was stated by the head of Taiwan's representative office in the US, Alexander Yui Tah-ray, in an interview with the Associated Press, UNN reports.

According to the AP, a $14 billion package of American weapons for Taiwan has yet to receive final approval after US President Donald Trump stated he had discussed the matter with Chinese leader Xi Jinping.

At the same time, Yui emphasized that Taipei does not rely solely on the help of allies.
"This is our responsibility, so we will not wait and rely on the American cavalry to come and save us,"
Tensions around the island
The diplomat stated that the threat level from China remains high, as Beijing regularly sends warships and aircraft near the island.
According to Yui, Taiwan sees no change in US policy toward the island. Earlier, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio also stated that Washington does not coordinate arms sales to Taiwan with China, and relevant decisions remain under consideration by the US administration.
