The British military intercepted one of the vessels of the Russian "shadow fleet" in the English Channel, which was used to transport Russian oil and gas in circumvention of sanctions. The situation was commented on by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Andrii Sybiha, in a post on the X social network. He thanked Great Britain for its actions and called for continued pressure on Russia, reports UNN.

The operation was reported on the X social network by the UK Home Secretary, Yvette Cooper.
"Last night our armed forces intercepted one of Russia's sanctioned ships in the English Channel as part of the UK's work to stop the revenues that fund the missiles, drones and constant bombardment of Ukrainian cities. These illegal ships exist to transport sanctioned Russian oil and gas around the world to keep money flowing into Putin's war machine. We are taking action against this illegal activity in our waters. Thank you to our armed forces and the NCA for their work in intercepting this vessel," the official stated.
Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andrii Sybiha thanked Great Britain for the measures taken and emphasized the importance of fighting the Russian "shadow fleet."
"Thank you for the leadership and decisive actions of Great Britain. Russia's shadow fleet is a tool of war. Every such vessel that is stopped means less money for the Russian war machine. Cutting off these revenues helps reduce Russia's ability to fund missile and drone attacks against Ukrainian cities. We must continue to increase pressure and close every loophole that allows Russia to finance its aggression," Sybiha emphasized.
Recall
More than half of Russia's shadow fleet is corroding and threatens an environmental disaster. The vessels are over 20 years old, lack insurance and proper maintenance, and should be scrapped.
