The loss of Russian bases in Syria is likely to disrupt Russian logistics. If the Kremlin agrees to maintain some bases in Syria, then the further deployment of the Russian armed forces in the country will depend on Syrian opposition groups - this may also weaken the influence of Russia's external presence in the Middle East and Africa.

Reports UNN with reference to the report of the American Institute for the study of war (ISW).

Details

The loss of Russian bases in Syria will have serious consequences for Russia's global military presence and its ability to operate in Africa, according to ISW. Analysts at the American Institute for the study of war recalled that the Russian Federation  used its naval base in Tartus to project forces in the Mediterranean Sea, create a threat to the southern flank of NATO and connect its Black Sea assets with the Mediterranean Sea.

The loss of Russian bases in Syria is likely to disrupt Russian logistics, supply efforts, and rotation of the African corps, especially weakening Russia's operations and force projects in Libya and sub-Saharan Africa.

Also, as an alternative, the ISW notes , Russia could try to use its presence in Libya or Sudan. But the lack of formal agreements with these countries and insufficient infrastructure make them inadequate replacements.

Regarding Syria: even if the Kremlin retains some or even all of the Russian armed forces bases in Syria, this is also likely to be part of geopolitical losses, because for Russia, further deployment of troops in Syria will depend on the policies of the leaders of the Syrian opposition. The Kremlin has previously called them terrorists.

recall

The Russian military evacuates from bases, leaving equipment and weapons, and the Russian command recognizes the loss of control over the situation.

Syrian rebels entered Damascus and seized the Presidential Palace.Bashar al-Assad left the capital, and the prime minister is ready to transfer power to the new leadership.
