Russia has asked the UN Security Council to hold a closed meeting on Monday, December 9, to discuss the collapse of the Bashar al-Assad regime in Syria. UNN reports this with reference to CNN.
"Given the recent events in Syria, the depth and consequences of which for this country and the entire region are not yet fully understood, Russia has requested urgent closed consultations in the UN Security Council," Dmitry Polyansky, Russia's First Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, said in a Telegram on Sunday.
According to him, the meeting is necessary to discuss what is happening with the UN forces responsible for maintaining the ceasefire between Israel and Syria and monitoring the buffer zone separating the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights from the rest of Syria.
