Germany's largest defense company Rheinmetall is going to increase the production of artillery ammunition tenfold. UNN writes about this with reference to Tagesschau.

Before the war in Ukraine, the company sold about 70,000 shells a year, but now demand has increased significantly, said CEO Armin Papperger in Düsseldorf and announced an increase in production capacity by the end of 2024.
We are heading for a volume of 700 thousand shells
Moreover, by 2027, when new production facilities are built in Unterlüs, Lower Saxony, and two planned plants in Ukraine and Lithuania, this figure will increase to 1.1 million shells per year.

Papperger commented on why 155mm shells were not in high demand before the great war in Ukraine. "Nobody was filling up the depots because at the time it was assumed that artillery ammunition was not particularly effective because there were nuclear weapons," he said, adding that the assumption was overturned by the war in Ukraine.
