European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen welcomed the agreement reached between the United States and Iran and emphasized the need for the deal's implementation as soon as possible. She stated this before the start of the G7 summit, UNN reports.
"I welcome the agreement reached between the United States and Iran. Now the main priority is its implementation," von der Leyen stated.
According to her, one of the priority steps should be the restoration of shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
"The Strait of Hormuz must be open, and freedom of navigation must be fully restored. This is critically important for both regional stability and the global economy," she emphasized.
The President of the European Commission also expressed hope that the agreements would serve as a basis for broader negotiations and contribute to the cessation of Iran's nuclear and ballistic programs.
Separately, she emphasized that a lasting peace in the Middle East is impossible without the cessation of hostilities in Lebanon.
"There can be no lasting peace as long as Lebanon remains engulfed in war. We call for a genuine ceasefire and respect for Lebanon's sovereignty," von der Leyen underlined.
