The newly elected Hungarian Prime Minister will strengthen cooperation with Austria and the Visegrad Group. Magyar aims to unblock 18 billion euros from the EU and study Donald Tusk's experience.

Hungary's newly elected Prime Minister Péter Magyar states that he will deepen relations with neighboring states, especially with Austria, building on strong economic ties and a shared history dating back to the Austro-Hungarian Empire of the late 19th century. This is reported by UNN with reference to Politico.

Details

During a press conference earlier this month, Magyar proposed uniting the Visegrad Group - an informal alliance of Hungary, Poland, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia. As a vivid example of this strategy, Magyar noted that his first trips in early May as Hungary's new leader would be to Warsaw and Vienna, the publication states.

While he considers Austria a more natural ally, Magyar intends to learn a lot from Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk and his efforts to restore liberal democracy after years of populist rule, particularly on how to unblock EU funds withheld due to concerns about the rule of law. One of Magyar's top priorities is to secure the unblocking of €18 billion in frozen EU funds; he is also pushing for access to €16 billion in European defense loans and the cancellation of a €1 million per day fine imposed on Hungary for refusing to comply with EU migration laws.

- the journalists noted.

Additionally

The Austro-Hungarian Empire existed from 1867-1918. It included the territories of modern Austria and Hungary, as well as modern Czech, Slovak, Romanian, Polish, and Ukrainian lands, part of present-day Italy, and the territories of Serbs, Croats, Slovenes, and Bosnians.

Recall

Hungary's elected Prime Minister Péter Magyar stated that he would discuss the issue of returning the blocked assets of the Ukrainian Oschadbank with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy only after officially taking office.
