Military counterintelligence of the Security Service, the State Bureau of Investigation, and the Prosecutor General's Office have gathered evidence against a senior rifleman of the National Guard of Ukraine who, while in the captivity of the Russian Federation, abused other captive Ukrainians.

According to the case files, after being captured by the Rrashists in June 2022, the serviceman began cooperating with the enemy. In exchange, he was appointed as the so-called "superintendent" of the 2nd floor of barracks No. 8 in "Kalinin Penal Colony No. 27" in temporarily occupied Horlivka, Donetsk region.

In this "position," the suspect treated other prisoners of war brutally. Specifically, following the occupiers' instructions, he exerted regular psychological pressure on Ukrainians, threatened violence, and forced them to perform heavy physical labor.

It has been established that one captive Ukrainian soldier died as a result of his torture, and dozens of others sustained bodily injuries of varying degrees of severity.

In March 2025, the suspect was released as part of a prisoner of war exchange between Ukraine and the Russian Federation. Since then, law enforcement officers have gathered numerous testimonies from witnesses who were held in the Russian prison with the suspect.

Based on the documented facts, the perpetrator has been notified of suspicion under Part 2 of Art. 431 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (violence or brutal treatment of other prisoners of war by a prisoner of war who is senior among them).

A preventive measure in the form of detention has been chosen for him. The suspect faces up to 8 years in prison.
