Today, on August 8, all mountain climbers celebrate the International Mountaineering Day (Mountaineer's Day). The event was founded in honor of the first conquest of the highest mountain in the French Alps, Mont Blanc, UNN writes.

Many residents of the Chamonix Valley and travelers have tried to conquer Mont Blanc, whose absolute height is 4,810 meters above sea level.

The first people to conquer Mont Blanc were the mountaineer and physician Michel-Gabriel Packard and his guide Jacques Balma. On August 8, 1786, they reached the top of the mountain in 24 hours.

The highest mountain on Earth is Everest (Jomolungma) - 8849 meters above sea level. It was first conquered in 1953.

It is interesting that among the peaks whose height exceeds 7,000 meters, there are 4 that have never been conquered by humans: Gangkhar Puensum (7570 meters, Himalayas, 3 failed climbing attempts), Labuche Kang III (7250 meters, Himalayas, no attempts), Karjiang (7221, Himalayas, 2 failed attempts), Tongshangjiabu (7207, Himalayas, no attempts).

In Ukraine, servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine celebrate their professional holiday. The holiday was established by presidential decree in 2000.

The first Ukrainian military signal units appeared during the liberation struggle of the Ukrainian people for independence in the 1920s.

From November 1917, the General Staff of the UPR Army had a liaison department, which existed both during the Hetmanate of Skoropadskyi and the Directory.

Together with the General Staff, the Communications Department was interned in 1921 in Poland, where it continued its work in exile.

August 8, 1920 Military engineering courses for the training of future military signalmen are opened in Kyiv on the basis of the former Konstantinivka Junker School.

On January 3, 1992, the Communications Department of the Kyiv Military District took over the management of the communications system and troops of the Kyiv, Prykarpattia, and Odesa Military Districts, and later the communications troops of the Air Force and Air Defense Forces. On January 4, the officers of the Communications Department swore allegiance to the people of Ukraine.

Today is also World Cat Day. The event was created in 2002 at the initiative of the International Fund for Animal Welfare.

It is believed that cats were domesticated about four thousand years ago

Today, there are about 500 million domestic cats in the world.

Since 2006, on August 8, you can join the International Day of the Female Orgasm. The event was launched in Brazil and quickly became popular in many countries.

Local resident José Arimathea Dantas Lacerda drew attention to a study that found that 28% of women in one of Brazil's regions cannot reach orgasm during intimacy.

The goal of the event is to encourage the right of women to express their desire and materialize it, putting them on equal footing with the male population, as well as to recognize women's sexual  right to pleasure.

According to the church calendar, today is the Day of Remembrance of St. Emilian the Confessor.

Emilian lived in Byzantium. From a young age, he decided to devote his life to serving the Lord, and was a priest, preacher, and theologian. Emilian was a strong opponent of the iconoclasts. He died in exile.

Name days on August 8 are celebrated by Omelyan, Myron. Gregory, Herman.
