The Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine has approved the Model Educational Program for specialized secondary education with a vocational focus. Starting September 1, 2027, students entering the 10th grade will be able to choose between specialized vocational training and an academic track. Starting September 1, 2027, students entering the 10th grade will be able to choose between specialized vocational training and an academic track. Vocational training will combine the attainment of a complete general secondary education with the mastery of practical skills,
It is reported that students will be able to study in one of 10 profiles: agricultural, construction, transport and logistics, engineering and technology, medical, IT, business and administration, educational and humanitarian, hospitality and event management, or beauty and design services.
"The new program provides high school students with more opportunities for an informed choice of their future. Students will not only be able to obtain a complete general secondary education but also get acquainted with professions, gain practical experience, and better understand which professional path they want to choose. This is an important step in the reform of secondary education, where learning is connected to real life and future careers,"
It is noted that the training will last three years and consist of 180 ECTS credits of classroom and independent study. Each year, the share of specialized training will increase so that students can gradually deepen their knowledge and practical skills. In the first year, they will undergo a specialized adaptation stage, and over the next two years, they will deepen their knowledge and practical skills.
In total, more than a third of the program will be directed toward specialized educational components related to the chosen field of activity, and more than 11% will consist of elective subjects that students can choose according to their own interests and labor market needs.
The ratio of study time between different educational components will vary depending on the profile. For example, in the IT profile, the volume of mathematics and digital technologies is increased; in the medical profile, biology and chemistry; and in the "Business and Administration" profile, mathematics and a foreign language.
A feature of the program is that general education subjects will be studied through a practical professional context. For example, mathematics in the IT profile will be linked to algorithms and digital technologies, a foreign language in the "Business and Administration" profile to professional communication, and specific topics in biology in the transport and logistics profile to driver health and occupational safety.
Upon completion of their studies, graduates will receive a certificate of complete general secondary education, as well as the opportunity to confirm their professional qualifications through qualification centers. Subsequently, they will be able to choose their further trajectory: continue their studies in a vocational, professional pre-higher, or higher education institution, or begin professional activity in their chosen field,
