First Lady Melania Trump is dressed in a white ensemble with a straw hat as she welcomes the King and Queen. She chose a white silk and wool jacket by American designer Ralph Lauren, a hat by Eric Javits, and matte Manolo Blahnik pumps with a snakeskin imitation. The First Lady spent several months planning the diplomatic details of the state visit, including the selection of outfits.
Following a tradition dating back to the 18th century, the President and the First Lady will mark the official arrival of the members of the Royal Family with a traditional military arrival ceremony – the highest diplomatic honor.
The King and Queen first met with official delegations from both countries and then proceeded to the dais, where they were greeted by a 21-gun salute from the Presidential Salute Battery and the performance of the national anthems by the United States Marine Band, "The President's Own."
Then King Charles and Trump inspected the troops on parade, after which the president delivered a short speech, concluding the ceremony.
