At a meeting with Netanyahu, US Vice President Kamala Harris expressed concern about the humanitarian situation in Gaza. She called for the creation of a Palestinian state and a ceasefire agreement.

Kamala Harris, a likely Democratic presidential candidate in the United States, in talks with Benjamin Netanyahu, which she characterized as frank, pressed the Israeli leader on the "terrible" humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip. This was reported by The Guardian, according to UNN.

The US Vice President said after the meeting: "What has happened in Gaza over the past nine months is devastating. The images of dead children and desperately hungry people fleeing for safety, sometimes displaced for the second, third or fourth time.

She acknowledged that "Israel has a right to self-defense" and condemned Hamas as a brutal terrorist organization that provoked the war and committed "horrific acts of sexual violence," but made it clear that how Israel defends itself matters, adding later:

"We cannot look away in the face of these tragedies (in Gaza - ed.). We cannot afford to be numb to the suffering, and I will not remain silent.

She called for the creation of a Palestinian state and for Israel and Hamas to agree on a ceasefire and the release of hostages. "As I just said to Prime Minister Netanyahu, it's time to make this deal," she said.

Addendum

According to The Guardian, Netanyahu also plans to meet with Trump on Friday at his residence. The two men have had a tense relationship since Netanyahu congratulated Biden on his victory in the 2020 election, which Trump claims was rigged without evidence.
