Today, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida will address the US Congress to emphasize the importance of maintaining a strong partnership between the two countries  and to call for the resumption of military assistance to Ukraine. UNN reports with reference to Euronews.

Details

Kishida is reportedly making an official trip to Washington as the White House has concluded hosting all the leaders of the Quartet, an informal partnership between the United States, Japan, Australia, and India designed to counter China's growing military power in the region.

After Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Tokyo joined the United States and other Western allies in imposing aggressive sanctions against Moscow, and Japanese automakers Mazda, Toyota, and Nissan announced their withdrawal from Russia.

Among the listeners to Kishida's speech in Congress will be many Republicans who insist that the United States should play a less active role in world affairs.

The House of Representatives returned to work after the Easter recess. Congressmen continue to discuss options for a future aid package for Ukraine.

Recall

For several months now, the Republican-controlled House of Representatives has been considering a $95 billion package of measures that would allocate funds for the military needs of Ukraine and Israel.
