Israel has verified that Marwan Issa, the second most powerful Hamas leader and deputy to Mohammed Deif, was killed in an air strike in Gaza during the ongoing conflict.

Marwan Issa, nicknamed "The Shadow Man," was one of the three main Hamas leaders who planned the October 7 attack. The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) reported on the X network that it was trying to confirm the elimination of the said Hamas military leader during an air strike in Gaza, UNN reports.

Details

On Monday, Israel was checking to see if the deputy military leader of Hamas, Marwan Issa, was killed in an air strike in Gaza.

If his death is confirmed, Marwan Issa will become the highest-ranking official of the Islamist militant movement killed by Israel in the five months of the war.

Marwan Issa, Mohammed Deif's deputy and one of the organizers of the October 7 massacre, was targeted in a joint operation with ISA at an underground compound. We are still assessing the results of the strike and will update the public when we are certain. We will continue to pursue Hamas leaders and all those involved in the October 7 massacre, not only in Gaza.

For reference

Marwan Issa, known as the "Shadow Man" for his ability to stay out of sight, was one of three senior Hamas leaders who planned the October 7 attack on Israel that triggered the war and who are believed to have directed Hamas military operations since then.

Issa was on Israel's most wanted list, along with Mohammed Deif, commander of the Izz el-Din al-Qassam brigades, and Hamas leader in Gaza, Yahya Sinwar.

According to Israeli estimates, Hamas militants, who control Gaza, killed 1,200 people in an attack on southern Israel and took 253 hostages. According to the Gaza authorities, the war has claimed more than 31,000 Palestinian lives, destroyed infrastructure and caused mass starvation.

Recall

Hamas rejected a new agreement with Israel on a six-week ceasefire and the release of hostages. The Islamists did not agree to release sick and elderly prisoners. The United States said that the burden for the lack of an agreement on Israeli hostages lies with the Palestinian militant group.

China is providing economic and security assistance to Russia amid its war in Ukraine, supporting the aggressor country's industrial base, and threatening to influence the 2024 US elections. There are also expectations of potential aggression against Taiwan by China.
