Speaking in Turkey on Friday, Iran's top diplomat said the process must be based on "justice and law," adding that Iran would not abandon diplomacy despite growing pressure.
"We will never abandon diplomacy," he said, emphasizing that dialogue, not confrontation, remains Iran's preferred approach.
At the same time, the Iranian Foreign Minister stated that there are currently no meetings or planned contacts with American officials, emphasizing that the conditions for negotiations have not yet been met.
When asked about possible engagement with Washington, Abbas Araghchi said that Iran would only consider negotiations if there were clear and compelling reasons that could pave the way for dialogue between the two sides.
He said Iran would continue consultations with its allies and partners, adding that Tehran remains cautiously optimistic about finding a new framework for negotiations in the future.
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, in turn, stated at the same press conference that his government hopes that the United States will not attack Iran amid escalating tensions between Washington and Tehran.
He warned that aggression would cause "great damage" to the fragile region.
Fidan stated that his country opposes foreign interference in Iran's affairs. He said that such actions would have negative consequences for the region.
He also reportedly said that Israel is trying to encourage military action against Iran. "We see that Israel is trying to persuade the US to launch a military attack on Iran… We hope that the US administration will act with common sense and not allow this to happen," Fidan said.
Fidan called for the resumption of nuclear talks between the US and Iran to resolve escalating tensions in the region.
"The resumption of nuclear talks between Iran and the US is vital for reducing regional tensions," Fidan said.
He said he was optimistic about finding solutions.
Fidan also stated that Turkey would continue talks with American officials regarding Iran amid tensions with Tehran. He added that he spoke with US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff on Thursday.
Meanwhile, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, during a phone call with the UAE President, as reported by Iranian state media, stated that Iran would respond immediately and decisively to "any aggression."
During a conversation with Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Pezeshkian said that Iran seeks dialogue, not war.
Pezeshkian raised the issue of US and Israeli "hostile actions" against Iran, including pressure, sanctions, and last year's war in June, Iranian media reported.
Iranian President Pezeshkian also held a phone conversation with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and, according to a statement from the Iranian president's office, indicated that diplomacy with the US depends on an end to threatening behavior after Washington's massive military deployment in the Persian Gulf.
"The success of any diplomatic initiative depends on the goodwill of the parties involved and the rejection of belligerent and threatening actions in the region," Pezeshkian said.
