From August 1, changes to tariffs on freight railway transportation come into force in Ukraine, providing for a 30% indexation. This is the first revision of tariffs since 2022, which occurs due to rising electricity costs and inflation.

Changes to tariffs for freight railway transportation come into force in Ukraine: this is provided for by the order of the Ministry of Restoration, Infrastructure and Transport of Ukraine, the publication of the decision is expected on July 31. This was reported by the press service of Ukrzaliznytsia, writes UNN.

This was preceded by the completion of all coordination procedures provided for by law, after which the order was registered by the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine"

- the statement reads.

The order provides for indexation of tariffs for freight railway transportation by 30% and unification of tariffs for the transportation of empty wagons. Previously, these tariffs depended on what cargo was previously transported in them, although this is in no way related to the cost of transportation, explained at UZ.

This is the first revision of freight tariffs since 2022. All this time, Ukrzaliznytsia continues to work under constant Russian shelling. Almost every day, railway infrastructure is destroyed, railway workers are killed and injured

- the statement says.

More than 460 locomotives have been damaged, and large-scale repair and restoration work has been launched, which requires consistent funding. Despite a critical lack of resources, train traffic does not stop, and all transportation important for the country's economy and defense is ensured.

Ukrzaliznytsia notes that since the last indexation of tariffs, industrial inflation has more than doubled. Only additional electricity costs compared to 2023 have increased for the railway by more than UAH 15 billion, and fuel, materials, repairs, equipment, and other components of the cost of transportation have significantly risen in price.

At the same time, the company has not had the financial ability to index the salaries of railway workers for the last 2.5 years, which today significantly lags behind the national average and has fallen to one of the last places among industrial sectors.

According to the company's estimates, the postponement of indexation in recent years has provided shippers with a positive economic effect of over UAH 100 billion. Even this year, the indexation planned for January 1 was postponed to the second half of the year.

To ensure the stable operation of the company, Ukrzaliznytsia proposed increasing tariffs by 45%. After numerous consultations with the largest shippers, industry associations, and other market participants, a compromise solution was reached: to carry out indexation in two stages: by 30% from August 1, 2026, and by another 15% from January 1, 2027.
