Law enforcement officers detained a National Guard major who was transporting three conscription-age men to the border with Slovakia to facilitate their illegal departure from Ukraine. This was reported by the State Bureau of Investigation, writes UNN.

According to the investigation, the officer picked up the men in Zaporizhzhia and drove them by car to Zakarpattia. From there, they were supposed to walk through the forest to the border and cross it outside official checkpoints.
On the way, the officer instructed the passengers on how to behave during possible checks. In particular, he advised them to tell law enforcement officers that they were going to Uzhhorod for a vacation.
At one of the checkpoints in Lviv region, the officer showed his service ID and claimed that he was transporting his friends.
During the check, it was discovered that one of the passengers was wanted for unauthorized absence from a military unit. After this, the men told law enforcement officers the true purpose of the trip.
According to operational data, the three men were supposed to pay $6,000 for organizing the illegal crossing of the border.
The major was detained and notified of suspicion of organizing the illegal transportation of persons across the state border of Ukraine (Part 3 of Article 332 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The article provides for up to 9 years of imprisonment, with deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for up to three years and confiscation of property.
