The Security Service of Ukraine, together with the National Police, detained an employee of one of the mobilization departments of the Territorial Recruitment and Social Support Center (TRC) in Dnipro, who organized a scheme for systematic extortion of bribes from persons liable for military service, UNN reports with reference to the SSU Office in the Dnipropetrovsk region.
Details
According to the case files, the suspect demanded 1,500 USD from a war veteran for "assistance" in removing him from the military register.
Law enforcement established that the man had legal grounds for being removed from the register due to health reasons and had provided all necessary documents. However, the TRC employee intentionally created artificial obstacles and delayed the procedure.
In exchange for the bribe, the perpetrator promised to influence officials at one of Dnipro's district TRCs to secure a decision on removing the applicant from the military register, making the corresponding changes to the Unified State Register of Conscripts, Persons Liable for Military Service and Reservists, as well as issuing a military registration document
SSU and National Police officers detained the perpetrator while receiving the money. He has now been notified of suspicion under Part 3 of Art. 369-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (abuse of influence).
The issue of selecting a preventive measure for the suspect is being decided. He faces up to 8 years in prison with confiscation of property.
Investigative actions are ongoing to establish all circumstances of the crime and potential accomplices, the SSU summarized.
