Ukraine's agricultural exports increased by 5% to $12.45 billion in the first half of 2024. The EU remains the main importer, and exports to Africa increased 1.7 times.

According to the State Customs Service of Ukraine, in the first half of 2024, the volume of exports of agri-food products increased by 5% compared to the same period last year, reaching USD 12451 million from the previous USD 11847 million.

According to the estimates of scientists from the Institute of Agrarian Economics, agri-food products accounted for 64% of Ukraine's total exports in the first half of 2024,” said Mykola Pugachev, scientist and deputy director of the National Research Center ‘Institute of Agrarian Economics’, academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

The main markets for Ukrainian agricultural products remain the European Union, Asia, and Africa, with a combined share of almost 94% of the value of Ukrainian agricultural exports in this period. The European Union, in particular, continues to be the main importer, purchasing more than 50% of Ukrainian food worth USD 6285 million, which is 4% more than in the previous period.

Exports to Asia decreased by 9%, but still amounted to USD 3909 million, while exports to Africa increased by 1.7 times to USD 1475 million. Spain, China, and Turkey top the list of major importers, with Spain importing products worth USD 1518 million, accounting for 12% of total exports. Grains, oils, fats and oilseeds remain the main exported commodity groups, accounting for 86% of foreign sales revenues.

The scientist notes that the decline in exports in late spring and early summer was due to a reduction in supply in the domestic market, while the new harvest and the potential for the production of other goods will determine the final exports in 2024.
