The European Commission does not confirm work on an "alternative" peace plan for Ukraine, in addition to the 28-point plan proposed by the US, as stated by European Commission spokespersons Anita Hipper and Paula Pinho during a briefing in Brussels on Friday, UNN writes.

Details

"You are referring to another plan that I am not aware of," said European Commission spokesperson Anita Hipper on foreign policy, answering a question about whether the European Commission could confirm that, according to some media reports, European officials are in Kyiv and working on another peace plan with the Ukrainians.

"Okay, so we cannot confirm that," said European Commission spokesperson Paula Pinho.

Regarding the US plan, Pinho indicated that "we have not been officially informed about this plan."

"I cannot confirm whether there have been any contacts with the US on this specific issue since the announcement of this plan yesterday," she said.

"President von der Leyen herself is very actively engaged with President Zelenskyy and the 'coalition of the willing' for a just and lasting peace in Ukraine. This is an ongoing process," Pinho said.

"This peace plan, or the 28-point plan, has been made public. And the President announced this morning that she will discuss the situation with both European leaders and G20 leaders who are in Johannesburg on the sidelines of the G20, and she also said that she will contact President Zelenskyy to discuss this issue," Pinho noted.

At the same time, she did not specify the timing of when von der Leyen would talk to Zelenskyy. "I have no more information," she said.

"But these calls may be imminent, and there may also be further calls. (...) Perhaps there will be other contacts in the context of the G20 and during the stay in Africa," Pinho replied to a question about when a conversation with Zelenskyy might take place and whether von der Leyen plans a phone call with US President Donald Trump.

Recall

Earlier, the WSJ reported that "European leaders are working on their own counter-proposal on how to end the war on alternative terms, and are trying to convince Ukraine to support their plan, which is designed to be more beneficial for Kyiv." Europe hopes that the plan will be ready within a few days, but Kyiv has not yet committed to joining it, the WSJ indicated.
