The European Union has expressed concern over information about the possible coordination of actions between the Hungarian authorities and Russia regarding the blocking of Ukraine's European integration. This was stated by Paula Pinho, spokesperson for foreign policy, during a European Commission briefing, as reported by UNN.
This refers to the published recordings of conversations between Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. According to journalistic investigations, the Hungarian side may have coordinated its actions regarding Ukraine with Moscow.
The European Commission emphasized that such reports cause serious concern throughout the Union.
"These revelations point to the alarming possibility that the government of a member state may be coordinating its actions with Russia, effectively working against the security and interests of the EU and its citizens," Pinho said.
She stressed that in such a situation, the state concerned must urgently provide an explanation.
"This is extremely serious, and the government of that country must explain its actions as soon as possible," the spokesperson added.
The European Commission also reported that this issue will be brought to the attention of European Union leaders for further discussion.
