Direct foreign flights from the Russian Federation have decreased threefold compared to the Soviet era – analysts

This summer, it will be possible to fly from the Russian Federation to only 32 countries, which is three times fewer than during the Soviet era. The list includes Afghanistan, North Korea, Iran, and 29 other states.

According to analysts, by June, some destinations disappeared due to seasonality, fuel and geopolitical factors, as well as restrictions related to the war in the Persian Gulf.

Among the destinations where Russians can fly on direct flights are Afghanistan, Belarus, Vietnam, Iran, Kazakhstan, Qatar, China, North Korea, Ethiopia, and others.

ATOR noted that during the "Iron Curtain," Aeroflot served about 80–90 destinations, and by the end of the decade, direct air service had been established with approximately one hundred countries.
