Diplomatic circles in Brussels said: "The inclusion of China in the "coalition of the willing" could potentially strengthen Russia's agreement to the presence of peacekeeping forces in Ukraine." In any case, the issue is "sensitive."
French President Emmanuel Macron has announced another summit of supporters of Ukraine next Thursday.
"Next Thursday we will hold a summit of the coalition of the willing," Macron said Thursday evening after the EU summit in Brussels. "My goal on Thursday is, first of all, a renewed, clear and possibly somewhat more concrete commitment to support Ukraine in the short term."
Macron added that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will also attend the summit in Paris. Both Macron and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer are ready to deploy peacekeepers to Ukraine in the event of a ceasefire between Moscow and Kyiv - an idea that, according to Welt, Russia has so far categorically rejected.
