Canada has imposed sanctions on the defense company Streit Group for supplying products to Russia’s military-industrial complex. The company manufactures armored vehicles used by Russia’s National Guard in the war against Ukraine.

Canada has imposed sanctions on the defense company "Streit Group" for supplying products to Russia’s military-industrial complex, including armored vehicles for the Russian National Guard. This is stated in a release by the Government of Canada, reports UNN

"Today, Minister of Foreign Affairs Anita Anand announced that Canada is imposing sanctions on the company "Streit Group" under the Special Economic Measures Regulations," the statement said.

As noted, "Streit Group" is a defense manufacturer that produces armored vehicles and other military equipment.

"Canada is imposing sanctions on this company based on numerous credible reports confirming that the armored vehicles it manufactures are being used by the Russian National Guard (Rosgvardia), which is participating in Russia’s ongoing war against Ukraine. Having previously supported Russia’s military-industrial complex by supplying defense products to Russian entities, "Streit Group" continues to fuel Russia’s war machine and Putin’s regime’s baseless and unjustified war against Ukraine," the Canadian government added.

The Canadian government emphasized that "the sanctions announced today will reduce Russia’s military capacity in its war against Ukraine by disrupting and limiting "Streit Group’s" ability to supply military technologies and equipment to Russia".

Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrii Sybiha welcomed Canada’s decision.

"Thank you to Canada’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Anita Anand and to Canada for this important decision. There must be a price for supporting Russia’s war machine. Every company that supplies technologies, equipment, or components to Russia’s military-industrial complex helps support the russian federation’s aggressive war against Ukraine and must be held accountable for it. Sanctions are effective when they are consistent and coordinated. We must continue to raise the price of Russian aggression and impose sanctions on those who help keep its war machine operating," Sybiha wrote on X.

Addition

Streit Group was founded in 1992 by German Gutorov, an emigrant from russia who began by importing American armored cash-in-transit vehicles into the russian federation.

In 2009, the company began operating in the russian federation, which it did not leave after the start of Russia’s invasion.

In September 2018, it became known that a license had been acquired to produce the Russian GAZ-2330 "Tiger" armored vehicle.

In December 2023, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy enacted another package of anti-Russian sanctions, which, in particular, concerned Streit Group.

In addition, the company was involved in producing armored vehicles for Ukraine. Thus, in 2014, Ukraine received approximately 150 KrAZ Spartan, KrAZ Cougar, and KrAZ Cobra armored vehicles from the company through procurement and licensed production.
