American singer Oliver Tree was among the victims of a plane crash that claimed the lives of six people in Rio de Janeiro on Sunday morning. The California artist, known for his eccentric persona, had come to Brazil for concerts as part of his international World's First World Tour.
Oliver Tree had over 2.3 million followers on social media, and on June 6, he performed a concert in São Paulo. A native of Santa Cruz, California, the artist began his career in ska and electronic bands before gaining popularity through pop music. Known for his unique hairstyle and stylized clothing, his three studio albums — Ugly Is Beautiful (2020), Cowboy Tears (2022), and Alone in a Crowd (2023) — garnered 11 million listeners on Spotify.
Oliver performed pop, alternative rock, electronic music, and hip-hop, and his performances combined music with theatrical scenes, humorous sketches, and audience interaction. After his trip to Brazil, the artist was scheduled to head to Europe and give his first concert in Lisbon, Portugal, on July 1.
