On Monday, according to officials, a U.S. Air Force B-52 Stratofortress crashed shortly after takeoff from Edwards Air Force Base in Kern County, California, UNN reports, citing Fox News.
According to a base statement posted on X, the aircraft went down at the Edwards airfield at approximately 11:20 a.m.
"A U.S. Air Force B-52 Stratofortress crashed shortly after takeoff at the Edwards airfield at 11:20 a.m.," Edwards Air Force Base reported on X.
"Emergency crews responded to the scene immediately, and the situation is ongoing. More information will be provided as it becomes available."
Photos from the scene show a plume of smoke rising near the wreckage.
It is currently unknown if anyone was injured.
