A Russian businessman with assets worth UAH 1.5 billion in Ukraine has been served a suspicion notice for sponsoring the Russian army

The SBU and the Prosecutor General's Office have served a suspicion notice in absentia to Russian businessman Yuriy Vasin. He owns 40 real estate properties in Ukraine and finances the Russian army.

The Office of the Prosecutor General and the Security Service of Ukraine have notified in absentia a Russian businessman who has UAH 1.5 billion in assets in Ukraine and sponsors the Russian army. This concerns the sanctioned Russian businessman Yuriy Vasin, reports UNN citing SBU.

Details

According to the investigation, after the full-scale Russian invasion, Vasin temporarily "rewrote" his business in Ukraine to trusted persons and continued to control the financial and economic activities of the enterprises.

This concerns 40 real estate properties, including a network of 17 hotels and resort complexes in various regions of Ukraine worth over UAH 1.5 billion.

The investigation also established that commercial structures controlled by Vasin on the territory of the Russian Federation actively cooperate with enterprises of the military-industrial complex and state paramilitary structures of the aggressor country. Currently, a motion has been filed with the court to seize the businessman's assets in Ukraine for their subsequent nationalization

Law enforcement officers conducted searches at the residences and office premises of Vasin's controlled top managers in Kyiv, Vinnytsia, and Lviv. During the searches, accounting reports, rough notes, smartphones, and computers with evidence of illegal activity were found.

Vasin was notified in absentia of suspicion under Part 3 of Article 110-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (financing actions committed with the aim of changing the boundaries of the territory and state border of Ukraine in violation of the procedure established by the Constitution of Ukraine, committed repeatedly for mercenary motives). The sanction of the article provides for imprisonment from 5 to 7 years.

Also, the sanction of the article provides for deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for up to 2 years and confiscation of property.
