The European Broadcasting Union has updated the rules for holding the Eurovision Song Contest. Now, the winning country automatically loses the right to host the contest if it is involved in an armed conflict or faces a tense geopolitical situation. This is stated on the official Eurovision website, reports UNN.
The winning broadcaster automatically loses the right to host the contest if an armed conflict, a tense geopolitical situation, or any other circumstance significantly affects the safety, security, or stability of its country or the immediate region
If necessary, the European Broadcasting Union may commission an independent security assessment of the winner’s region. Following such an assessment, the Union will consult with the Advisory Group to determine whether the winning country is capable of safely hosting the contest.
If it is determined that the winner cannot serve as the host, the EBU will appoint an alternative host broadcaster. The appointed host broadcaster will assume all rights, obligations, and responsibilities related to staging the Contest, including responsibility for organizing, producing, and staging the event. The host broadcaster will organize the Contest in its own name and will not be required to hold the event on behalf of another participating country
It should be noted that in 2022, the Ukrainian group Kalush Orchestra won the international song contest "Eurovision 2022" with the song Stefania. The contest was held in Turin, Italy.
The following contest was supposed to take place in Ukraine, but it was relocated to the United Kingdom because of the hostilities.
