Washington and Beijing can force Moscow to want peace - Zelenskyy

Ukraine continues to work to ensure that the war has a prospect of a diplomatic end, and is ready for all meaningful negotiation formats. At the same time, Russian dictator Vladimir Putin does not demonstrate readiness for peace, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on July 3 during a meeting of heads of foreign diplomatic missions of Ukraine, reports UNN.

The President emphasized that to open a diplomatic path, a coordinated position of influential world capitals is necessary. In his opinion, Washington and Beijing have enough leverage to force Moscow to change its position.

"When Moscow does not want to, Washington and Beijing can make it want peace," Zelenskyy said.

He added that Ukraine is also working to strengthen the political and security role of Europe so that Russia cannot ignore the position of European states.

"We are doing everything possible so that the capitals of Europe, which Russia does not really want to pay attention to, are at a level where Russia cannot ignore Europe. This is one of the key tasks of our security and political cooperation with our European partners," the Ukrainian leader emphasized.

The head of state also stressed that Ukrainian diplomats must consistently refute claims that Ukraine is allegedly interested in prolonging the war.

"Ukraine continues to do everything possible on our part so that this war has a prospect of a diplomatic end. One of the key theses of Ukraine's opponents and those who trust not very reliable sources is that we in Ukraine supposedly want the war to continue," Zelenskyy said.

According to him, it is Russia that is trying to drag out the hostilities and cause as much damage as possible to human life.

"Ukraine wants peace. It is Ukraine that did not want this war for a single day. It is Russia that is doing everything possible to prolong the war and strike at life as much as possible," the president emphasized.

Zelenskyy noted that the leaders of states capable of influencing the situation are informed about Kyiv's readiness for diplomatic work.

"We are working for diplomacy. All leaders who can help know that we are ready for all meaningful formats. Putin is not ready. And that is precisely the problem," the head of state stated.
