Ukraine cannot be dragged into Poland's internal politics, and historical issues should be resolved by historians - Sybiha

Ukraine opposes the use of Ukrainian themes in Poland's domestic politics, and complex historical issues should remain a subject of professional dialogue among historians, not political discussions. This was stated by Ukraine's Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrii Sybiha, reports UNN.

According to the minister, Kyiv and Warsaw have recently achieved noticeable progress in resolving the most sensitive historical issues, and this process must continue.

Over the past year and a half, thanks to the cooperation between President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Prime Minister Donald Tusk, as well as my contacts with Poland's Minister of Foreign Affairs Radosław Sikorski, we have achieved significant, even breakthrough progress on issues of the historical past. Exhumation work has begun, and a forum of historians has been established. We adhere to the principle that historians themselves should work on such topics. This aligns with both the philosophy and logic of the European Union. It is important to prevent the politicization of history and its negative impact on bilateral relations

- said Sybiha.

The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also emphasized that Ukraine categorically does not support the use of anti-Ukrainian rhetoric in domestic political struggles.

Another important element is that Ukraine cannot be drawn into internal political discourse. We are categorically against this. We already see how anti-Ukrainian rhetoric ended for Viktor Orbán. It is a path to nowhere. Our signal is very simple: we need to work on developing cooperation. Almost a million Ukrainians live in Poland, so it is extremely important to maintain good neighborly relations and develop partnership between our countries

- Sybiha stressed.
