A bottle of The Macallan whiskey from 1926 was sold at an auction in London for a record £2.1 million ($2.7 million). This exceeded the previous record of £1.5 million ($2.1 million) for a bottle of the same brand
A bottle of The Macallan from 1926, which Sotheby's auction house called "the most valuable whiskey in the world," went under the hammer on Saturday for a record 2.1 million pounds (2.5 million euros, 2.7 million dollars), UNN reports with reference to AFP.
Details
The rare bottle was expected to fetch between £750 thousand and £1.2 million, but surpassed estimates.
The sale set "a new record for any bottle of spirits or wine sold at auction," a Sotheby's spokesman told AFP.
One of the 1926 Macallan bottles set a previous record for the most expensive bottle ever sold in 2019 when it was sold for £1.5 million by the same London auction house.
Sotheby's whisky department head Johnny Fowle told AFP before the sale that he was allowed to taste the valuable whisky.

I tried a tiny drop - a tiny drop - of this. It's very rich, it's got a lot of dried fruit, as you'd expect, a lot of spices, a lot of wood,"
He pointed out that the drink spent 60 years in dark European oak, which reflected in the color.
"This is not a whiskey to be taken lightly. It's full of drama, but it's incredible," Fowle said.
Addendum
These bottles are among only 40 that Macallan, from Moray in northern Scotland, has confirmed were bottled from Cask 263 in 1986.
