It is noted that the initiative to postpone the vote, previously scheduled for next week, was made by the leader of the Democratic Party in the Senate, Chuck Schumer.
“The Senate leader spoke with House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries, and both agreed to urge the party to delay the start of the nomination process,” the article says.
Subsequently, Tim Walz, co-chairman of the Democratic Party's rules committee, which determines the nomination process, informed Biden's campaign manager that the vote should be postponed.
“Under that pressure, the Democratic National Committee announced that virtual voting would take place instead during the first week of August,” the NYT writes.
