Due to the shelling in the port of Chornomorsk, a reservoir containing 6,000 tons of oil was destroyed. A slick has formed in the water area, and an assessment of the damages incurred is ongoing.
A large-scale oil spill occurred in the port following enemy shelling in Chornomorsk, Odesa region, the State Environmental Inspection of the South-Western District reported, according to UNN.

As noted by the SEI, "On April 26, 2024, as a result of the shelling of the city of Chornomorsk, the infrastructure of the 'Chornomorsk' sea trade port was damaged. During the fire, a storage tank containing 6,000 tons of sunflower oil was destroyed."
"Services of the Chornomorsk branch of the SE 'USPA' promptly localized the consequences of the accident. Barriers have been installed on the territory to contain the spread, and storm drains have been blocked to prevent product residues from entering the aquatic environment," the State Environmental Inspection noted.
State inspectors, as indicated, conducted an inspection of the scene during their visit.
Soil contamination was not recorded, as the area has a concrete surface. At the same time, an oil leak into the port's waters was established. A slick approximately 400 by 200 meters in size formed on the water surface. Boom barriers have been deployed to contain it
The inspection took samples of seawater for laboratory testing. The results of the analyses, as noted, will allow for the determination of the actual level of pollution and the preparation of a damage calculation.
"The final assessment of the damage to the marine environment caused by armed aggression will be conducted after obtaining the full scope of necessary data," the statement reads.
