The number of labor disputes filed by Ukrainians in Estonia has doubled this year
this year, the number of labor disputes from Ukrainians in Estonia has doubled, according to the Estonian Labor Inspectorate, writes UNN with reference to ERR.
Details
this year, the Estonian Labor Inspectorate received 146 labor disputes from Ukrainians working in Estonia. 126 disputes were resolved in favor of the Ukrainians. Employers were charged 320,926 euros, which is 61% of the amounts that Ukrainians demanded.
"compared to last year, the number of labor disputes involving Ukrainians has doubled. If in 2022 there were only 1,868 labor disputes, 70 of which concerned Ukrainian refugees, this year 146 labor disputes involving Ukrainians have already been received," said Kaire Saarep, general director of the Labor Inspectorate.
she added that most labor disputes relate to unpaid wages or other financial claims and compensation.
also, according to her, conflicts arise for various reasons. Some employers take advantage of and manipulate refugees ' ignorance. Ukrainians themselves can make the wrong decisions due to ignorance of the rules.
"it is sad that Ukrainians come to Estonia, believe the word of their employer and subsequently remain without a salary. They also don't always know how to seek help. And when they find help, they get poor legal advice and lose money because of it. Perhaps the most problematic thing is that people trust their employers and therefore agree to work without a contract and receive a salary in cash," the head of the Labor Inspectorate explained," Saarep summed up.

the average salary in Ukraine for the quarter decreased by 3.3%.
