The Italian TV channel Rai 1 aired a report from the Ukrainian-occupied Suzha in the Kursk region of the Russian Federation. Moscow summons the Italian ambassador because of the “illegal entry” of journalists into the territory of the Russian Federation.

The story was broadcast on August 14 in the evening edition of the TG1 news service of the first channel of the Italian public broadcaster Rai1.

In the footage released , the film crew enters the territory of the Kursk region with the Ukrainian military. As they enter Sudzha, the reporter Stefania Battistini claims that the Ukrainian military is in control of the town.

The journalist talks to some of the locals who stayed in the city. When asked how they are treated by the Ukrainian military, one of the residents answers: "Politely".

"That's the difference between us and the Russians..." the Ukrainian defender concludes.

Nevertheless, the Russian Federation was outraged by the actions of Italian journalists. On August 16, Italian Ambassador to Moscow Cio Piccioni was summoned to the Russian Foreign Ministry.

The ambassador was protested in connection with the actions of the film crew of the Italian state television and radio company RAI, which allegedly illegally entered the territory of the Russian Federation. 

Moscow said that the journalists "grossly violated Russian law and basic rules of journalistic ethics.

Acts committed by Italian citizens fall under the scope of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. The Russian competent authorities are taking the necessary measures to establish the circumstances of the crime committed by the RAI employees, to assess them legally and to take appropriate measures
