"The road home begins the moment we leave it..."

On January 30, 2024 the International Center for Culture and Arts (ICCA, formerly the October Palace) will host the premiere of the contemporary ballet "D.I.M." by the INSHA Dance Company.

Details

A contemporary ballet in two acts "D.I.M." to music by Viktor Rekalo performed by artists of Insha Dance Company is a work created by a dancer, choreographer, super finalist of the show "So You Think You Can Dance. Season 8", ballet dancer Ilya Miroshnichenko, and Kateryna Kuznetsova and exclusively Ukrainian artists with the support of the Federal Foreign Office of Germany and the Stabilization Fund for Culture from Goethe-Institut

The performance uses material and European experience from creative residencies that have enabled the idea to be scaled up to a full-fledged major performance. The project "D.I.M." grew out of the performance M.H.O.T.F., or My House on Two Feet (2022, the project was implemented as part of a residency program for artists from Ukraine with the support of TanzHaus "TanzFaktur" and Kunststiftung NRW, Cologne, Germany).

"D.I.M." focuses on the bodily reflection on home, its physical and spiritual significance for people forced to leave their land. A large-scale set allows us to comprehend all the symbolism that the action on stage is saturated with.

"This is a story about the road. About those who were forced to share a carriage on an evacuation train and, having accepted the new rules of life, remained unconquered. This is a dedication to each of us, to everyone who has experienced the pain of loss and what was lost. Home is a process, a journey, and therefore we are all on our way home... And while the sound of the train continuously accompanies this journey, let them share their stories," comment the creators of the contemporary ballet D.I.M.
