The bite of a caracurta can be fatal for people with allergies and chronic diseases. The expert advises to seek immediate medical attention and explains the problems with the availability of an antidote in Ukraine.

Life-threatening complications after a caracurta spider bite can occur in people who are prone to allergic reactions, suffer from some chronic diseases, or have bronchial asthma. People who do not seek medical attention are the first to die from a bite.

This was reported  by Oleksandr Urin, head of the intensive and efferent therapy department of acute intoxication at Okhmatdyt, on one  of the Ukrainian TV channels, according to a correspondent of UNN .

“When you are bitten by a caracurta, the pain appears in 15 minutes or so, and it will be very pronounced, because the venom that these spiders contain affects the central and peripheral nervous system. Complications associated with it will spread throughout the system. If a person suffers from any chronic diseases or has a tendency to allergic reactions or bronchial asthma, he or she may have life-threatening complications. Therefore, the first step is to seek medical help,” Urin said.

He also told us what to do in case of a spider bite.

“First of all, you need to immobilize this limb, if possible. As for drinking a solution of potassium permanganate, it does not work. It makes no sense and can be dangerous for the patient. You need to give a lot of water to drink, liquids that are at hand. If you know you have an allergy, take anti-allergic medication and seek medical help,” Urin said.

He noted that caracurts are the most poisonous spiders in Ukraine.

“If we are talking about karakurts, which are the most poisonous in our country, then first of all, people who do not seek medical help die,” Urin said.

He also explained why Ukraine has problems with anti-circumcision serum.

Given the changes in our medical system in general, hospitals may not even take on many sera, because these are very rare bites, cases in our country, and therefore it is not profitable for medical institutions to store this antidote, which may not be needed this year, and it is expensive and needs to be thrown away when it expires. We have no developed system of toxicological care in the country at all. Most of these antidotes were purchased from our enemy and now it is not available because of the war

According to him, it should also be understood that all antidotes are quite serious drugs that can cause anaphylactic reactions and can be fatal.

“We also have no antidotes for snakebites  and many others,” Urin added.

When asked if there is no serum, does it mean that a person who has been bitten by a spider is doomed, Urin answered: “No. I don't agree with that. People need to understand that if you are prone to anaphylactic reactions, you have severe allergies, then when you are outdoors, you should have the means to help yourself - this is adrenaline, which is used in these difficult situations and people should think about it in advance.

Urin explained that if a person seeks medical help, the chances of death are extremely low.

“The percentages that are broadcast everywhere from 4 to 6% of fatalities in the case of a caracurta bite are mostly due to not seeking medical care,” Urin said.
