In the first 11 months of 2024, 467 organ transplants and 376 stem cell transplants were performed in Ukraine. More than 3000 patients are still waiting for life-saving operations.

467 organ transplants have been performed in Ukraine since the beginning of the year, including kidney, liver and heart transplants. This is reported by the Ministry of Health, UNN reports.

"In 11 months of 2024, Ukrainian doctors performed 467 organ transplants: 311 kidneys, 93 livers, and 63 hearts. Of these, more than 65% were transplants from a deceased donor," the Ministry of Health reported.

Most of the transplants were performed at the First Medical Association of Lviv, the Shalimov National Institute of Surgery and Transplantation, and the Heart Institute of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.

"We also performed 376 hematopoietic stem cell transplants, including 54 for children. This is a 15% increase compared to the same period last year. The leaders are the Kyiv National Cancer Institute, Cherkasy Clinical Oncology Center, and Kyiv City Center for Nephrology and Dialysis. This year, the State Institution "National Research Center for Radiation Medicine, Hematology and Oncology of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine" joined the institutions that perform stem cell transplantation, the ministry added.

In addition, the first allogeneic transplant was performed at the National Cancer Institute, and such operations are currently being performed in four Ukrainian institutions.

"Over the four years since transplantation has been actively developing in Ukraine, more than 1,500 organ transplants have been performed. Currently, more than 3,000 patients are waiting for life-saving transplant operations," the Ministry of Health summarized.
