Ukraine has applied sanctions against Russian propaganda media and judges who made illegal decisions regarding Ukrainian journalists, including Viktoria Roshchyna, who was tortured to death in Russian captivity, as well as activists and politicians; President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed the corresponding decree, the Office of the President reported, according to UNN.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a decree enacting the decision of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine to apply sanctions against Russian propaganda media and judges who made illegal decisions regarding Ukrainians. The sanctions package includes 29 individuals and 17 legal entities,
As reported, "among them are judges involved in the criminal prosecution of Ukrainians on the territory of Russia and in the temporarily occupied peninsula of Crimea, as well as in the sentencing in absentia of Ukrainian activists, journalists, and politicians."
"In particular, this includes Moscow judge Timur Vakhrameev, who systematically makes politically motivated decisions against Ukrainian civilians and fighters of volunteer units. He facilitated the complete isolation of illegally detained Ukrainian journalists and was involved in the imprisonment of Viktoria Roshchyna, who was tortured to death in Russian captivity. Her death became known on October 10, 2024, when she was already on the exchange lists. Russia returned the body of Viktoria Roshchyna with numerous traces of torture to Ukraine only in February 2025," the report states.
Also included in this package are "Russian propaganda media and their leaders involved in the systematic dissemination of lies and Russian propaganda. These include 'Gazeta.Ru', 'Lenta.Ru', and the Union of Journalists of Russia is also on the list."
"We believe that everyone involved in the persecution of Ukrainians and the dissemination of Russian propaganda must be held accountable for their actions. Ukrainian sanctions are just the beginning; further decisions will follow. We are grateful to human rights organizations for the information and assistance in documenting such cases," noted Vladyslav Vlasiuk, Advisor - Commissioner of the President on Sanctions Policy.
